I don't know for sure, but there is a possibility that, from one e-mail I received, the HCS Alumni on the Web site might be responsible for a budding romance. THAT boosted my ego! Turned out they even lived near each other and didn't know it!

As usual, I will try to indicate pages on the site that have been updated or changed in case you are looking for specific changes to occur. Otherwise, just have fun perusing! After all, it's your (HCS Alumni) web site!

Annual Alumni Banquet

Attendance at the Annual Alumni Banquet was the best ever! Over 160 people attended, nearly filling the fire hall to capacity. THANK YOU HFD, for your support and participation.

Each attendee received a souvenir pen and were encouraged to fill out a questionnaire on the evening's events.

The events began with a blessing by Betty Masters and a minute of silence for our departed Alumni.

The St. John's Jazz Band performed for the dinner crowd.

A short description of the Alumni Associaton's funds distribution was also presented:
* Julie Raven and Cody Bayne each received a $250 scholarship award.
* Dominic Deluca and Samantha Davis each received a $50 scholarship for music.
* $1,000 was donated toward the HCS Band Uniforms
* $200 was donated toward cheerleading uniforms
* $125 was donated to the Heuvelton Labor Day Committee, plus an ad to promote the Alumni Association was bought in the Labor Day booklet.
* And they hired the band for the evening's entertainment.

The Alumni Committee needs your continued support and dues to continue with the scholarships and other worthwhile projects they sponsor. If you can, I hope you will help. You may contact Ron Ritchie by clicking HERE for questions or comments or information.
The Alumni Committee members who worked so hard to put the dinner together are:
Norma Finley, An Willard, Janet Blackburn, Jean LaJoy, Faye White, Shirley and Avis Todd, Jon Kio, and Mary Lou Witherell. THANKS FROM EVERYONE!

Distinguished Alumni Awards for 2001 were presented to:
Fay (Witherell) White and William Johnson. You can jump immediately to their article by clicking
HERE if you wish. There is a link there to bring you right back to this point.

Doug White won the 50/50 raffle.

From the September 24th Alumni Committee meeting:

The HCS Alumni also recently discussed the following issues:

-- Paying for Web site:
Presently the web site is located at
HeuveltonAlumni.tripod.com, having been moved there due to the demise of the spree.com servers. Tripod seems to be a decent home, but the committees are considering whether to pay for their own web site or not. The benefit of a paid web site are mostly, NO advertising, and a greater longevity (no shut-downs as was experienced at Spree).
If you have an opinion on this matter, you may wish to use the Alumni Message Board on the web site so that all visitors may see it and respond accordingly.

Officers:

Chair: Ron Ritchie
Co-Chair: Norma Finley
Treasurer: Janet
Secretary: Jean Lajoy
Recording Secretary: Ann Willard

The next meeting is scheduled for Oct 15, 2001 at the school.

OPERATION RECOGNITION

I have received e-mails from a few people with suggestions that more people be included in the awarding of high school diplomas because their schooling was interrupted by WW II. Please understand that I only REPORT the activities. Several other names have been suggested to me, but as I indicated, they should contact the school itself as I have no control over these. I hope you understand that the "all or nothing" reporting style is not one I will engage in. I will be very happy to include on the web site ANY verifiable information concerning WW II veterans, but that is the extent of my involvement with Operation Recognition. For details, please visit http://www.veterans.state.ny.us/infoupdateoprecognition.htm. All the information you need is there. Also of note is that the intended recipient of the diploma must be the one to contact the school.

If you use Yahoo, msn, hotmail, etc. for your e-mail address to receive my newsletter announcements, PLEASE help me by notifying me if you abandon that address or change addresses. It will help considerably in database maintenance. Thank you.

OK, on a final note, I present the following article sent to me by Lois Bullock Rivet:

"The Class Of 2005"

Just in case you weren't feeling too old today, this will certainly change
things.
Each year the staff at Beloit College in Wisconsin puts together a list to
try to give the Faculty a sense of the mind set of this year's incoming
freshmen.

Here is this year's list:

* The people who are starting college this fall across the nation were
born in 1983.
* They have no meaningful recollection of the Reagan Era and probably
did not know he had ever been shot.
* They were prepubescent when the Persian Gulf War was waged.
* Black Monday, 1987 is as significant to them as the Great
Depression.
* There has been only one Pope.
* They were 10 when the Soviet Union broke apart and do not remember
the Cold War.
* They have never feared a nuclear war.
* They are too young to remember the space shuttle blowing up.
* Tianamen Square means nothing to them.
* Bottle caps have always been screw off and plastic.
* Atari predates them, as do vinyl albums. The expression "You sound
like a broken record" means nothing to them.
* They have never owned a record player.
* They have likely never played Pac Man and have never heard of Pong.
* They may have never heard of an 8 track. The Compact Disc was
introduced when they were born.
* As far as they know, stamps have always cost about 33 cents.
* They have always had an answering machine.
* Most have never seen a TV set with only 13 channels, nor have they
seen a black & white TV.
* They have always had cable.
* There have always been VCRs, but they have no idea what BETA was.
* They cannot fathom not having a remote control.
* They don't know what a cloth baby diaper is, or know about the "Help
me, I've fallen and I can't get up" commercial.
*
* Feeling old Yet? There's more:
*
* They were born the year after Walkman were introduced by Sony.
* Roller skating has always meant inline for them.
* Jay Leno has always been on the Tonight Show.
* They have no idea when or why Jordache jeans were cool.
* Popcorn has always been cooked in the microwave.
* They have never seen Larry Bird play.
* They never took a swim and thought about Jaws.
* The Vietnam War is as ancient history to them as WW I, WW II and the
Civil War.
* They have no idea that Americans were ever held hostage in Iran.
* They can't imagine what hard contact lenses are.
* They don't know who Mork was or where he was from.
* They never heard: "Where's the beef?", "I'd walk a mile for a
Camel," or "De plane, de plane!"
* They do not care who shot J.R. and have no idea who J.R. was.
* The Titanic was found? They thought we always knew.
* Michael Jackson has always been white.
* Kansas, Chicago, Boston, America, and Alabama are places, not rock
bands.
* McDonalds never came in Styrofoam containers.
* There has always been MTV.
* They don't have a clue how to use a typewriter.

Do you feel old yet?
Sorry to burst your bubble...

Thanks to Pat Kelly See and Faye White, we have been very privileged to acquire some historic pictures for the web site. I think many of you will enjoy these. You may click on the pictures for a better view; the ones here are relatively small for display speed.
